Press Release
And The Winners Are..
Sebastian Cosma of Goodwin Elementary School sat nervously at his desk while trying to figure out why his parents, along with Principal Benson, were standing in his classroom. A smile covered this second grader’s face when his name was read confirming that he indeed was the winner of a brand new bike and helmet. This was the first of four bikes and helmets to be awarded to students in North Aurora for participating in a Home Escape Plan and Coloring Sheet Program sponsored by the North Aurora Fire Protection District.. The second bike was delivered during lunch to Schneider School pupil, Kyle Licar. Kyle’s mother and grandmother were also in attendance during the presentation. He was speechless throughout the awarding. Kelly McMorris was in the middle of her music class when a member of the Public Education Committee of the North Aurora Fire Department arrived. She was stunned when her parents walked into the room with her beautiful new pink and purple bike complete with tassels on the handle bars. She is a first grader at Fearn Elementary School. The fourth and final bike will be selected and presented to another lucky student just before the Christmas break.
The goal of this program was to have all students work with their families to plan and practice getting out of their homes in an emergency and going to a specified meeting place. To insure that the plan was conducted, a parent’s or caregiver’s signature was required confirming that all family members participated in the drill.
